Does the free tutoring service also include the books?
Yes. Free tutoring includes free access to books for the learner.
Can we meet somewhere other than the classroom for tutoring sessions?
Yes, but not at the learner's or tutor's house.
Is there a minimum level of literacy required to be accepted as a learner into the ALF program?
No. All adults wanting to improve their level of literacy are welcome.
Is tutoring done only in one-on-one settings?
Yes. We don't offer group classes.
Are you only offering English reading and writing?
No. Numeracy, digital, banking, medias and other specialized content are also offered on demand.

How long is the program?
We help the learner in respect of his/her own goal(s) and pace. There is no time limit.
How long is a session?
Normally from 45 min. to 90 min. The learner and tutor can also agree on the frequency of the sessions.
When are the tutoring sessions?
Seven days a week from 8:30 to 20:00. The learner and the tutor agree on a schedule that works the best for both of them.
Are tutors retired teachers?
No. Actually, more than half of our tutors come form other sectors.
What commitment is expected from tutors.
Two hours a week for one year.
Is ALF a religious organization?
No religious or political affiliation.
Do you also offer tutoring in French?
No. However, we offer a great selection of French books at our annual used book sale each Fall.
