About Us:
Adult Literacy Fredericton (ALF) is a passionate, community-based charitable organization dedicated to improving lives through literacy. We are committed to creating positive change and empowering those we serve. We are looking for a dynamic Executive Director to lead the organization.

Role Overview:
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall management of the organization. The ED will work closely with the Board of Directors and volunteers to ensure the successful execution of ALF’s strategic plan. This is a part-time position (25 hours per week). As the only staff person, we need someone who can work independently as well as collaboratively with our volunteers and Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement all policies and programs and day-to-day operations including social media management.

  • Strive to achieve the mission, vision and strategic plan of the organization in collaboration with various partners.

  • Act as the key liaison between stakeholders and the Board. Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements when possible with community groups, donors, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization.

  • Manage annual operating budget including organizing fundraisers and submitting grant applications.

  • Coordinate volunteer recruitment and manage volunteer resources to assist in the delivery of the organization's programs and services.

  • Conduct activities and tasks necessary for coordination of program services, including learner/tutor intake and orientation, screening, matching process, learner assessment, learner/tutor support, and program evaluation.

  • Responsible for reporting and records management.
     

Qualifications:

  • A combination of experience and training in leadership, organizational management, and personnel development.

  • Experience in the non-profit sector including working with volunteers.

  • Passionate about improving adult literacy.

  • Skills in leadership, team development and capacity building (eg., partnerships, fund development, community development).

  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, problem solving and judgment skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, website management, social media)

In addition, the successful applicant will have their own transportation and pass a vulnerable sector background check.
